Ryan Perry, at 20 years old is the
foremost youth artist of endangered and exotic animal art in the United
States. He is best recognized for his detail and wildlife realism. He
was raised in the northwest, (Washington State) and has gained an undaunted
respect for nature and her subjects and spends hundreds of hours at Mt.
Rainier snow shoeing , hiking, and photographing his references. Annual
photo trips to Montana, Yellowstone, and Africa reflect realism in his
work.
Acrylic is Ryan's favorite medium. Most of his work is a mix between a
detailed brush and air brush. The whole painting process is very difficult
and detailed creating a new challenge around each corner for him. He is
constantly striving to perfect his style by challenging himself more with
each painting and always putting his best into his art.
Ryan's work has been recognized by many awards. He won his first art contest
in junior high which motivated him to continue his art in high school.
The State of Washington has purchased Ryan's art for two consecutive years
and placed his art on permanent display in two state collections. For
two years Ryan's art has taken the "Best of Show" in the Federal
Junior Duck Stamp Contest of Washington State. Each time his work has
represented Washington State in the national s and has been on display
in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C. and then toured the country
for a year at some of the top art shows in the nation.
Ryan was nominated 1999 California Open Youth Artist of the year. Having
had several successful shows, Ryan is continuing his art career. He has
attended community college and the Bear Tooth School of Art in Montana,
taking workshops under John Seerey-Lester, Daniel Smith, Paco Young, and
Bruce Miller. He also has studied under Greg Beecham, Kobus Moller, Wanda
Mumm and Ron Ukraiaetz; all of whom have influenced his work.
Ryan and his art have been featured in Inform Art, Art Trends Magazines
and U.S. Art. U.S. Art Magazine nominated Ryan as one of the new generation
of wildlife artists.
Ryan's North American game, African game, waterfowl and exotic and endangered
species art has been juried in several National Shows for 2000 and 2001.
